The second point of contact will still be the OEM swaybar, so the turning radius gains will not be identical to the 2500\/3500 regardless, so long as the OEM swaybar is retained. Once the factory shock mount is removed, the Carli shock mount will be welded in place providing peace of mind and as much space as possible to cycle the 3.0″ diameter cylinders of the Dominator shocks.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEven slightly offsetting the lower shock mount, the factory brake lines that come over the top of the radius arm need to be relocated to prevent the wiper cap (blue cap on the bottom of the shock body from which the shaft extends) contacting the factory lines. We provide extended Stainless Brake Lines and routing brackets to clear the brake lines from the shocks completely.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAnother weak point…. The factory coil buckets offer very little support for the isolator – and thus, the coil – beyond a small hole to index its fitment. Combine this with a lower coil seat that’s angled forward and inward creating a spring pressure that induces both forward bowing and slipping coils. It’s not uncommon to see flattened isolators and springs that look like they’re going to slide forward and out of the bucket. Compound this factory shortcoming by adding big shocks, extended travel, and a heavy right foot off the pavement and additional support for the coils becomes cheap insurance against a coil re-installation off-the-grid! Machined from a solid piece of mild steel, these supports require front suspension disassembly, cleaning of the factory coil bucket, welding, priming and painting. Once in place, they appear factory as they’re nearly completely covered by the factory isolator. With these installed, your coil spring will not budge.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn the rear, The shocks bolt into the factory location on the axle but the upper “Pin” style shock mount requires a bit more beef to hold up to the abuse of which a 3.0″ Shock is capable. Cut off the factory stud, bolt these to the the two holes that exist in the factory shock mount with the provided hardware to locate them and weld along the frame. What better way to learn a product than to cut it in half to learn it’s functionality. The upper ball joint is designed as a pivot point determining the axis on which the knuckle will move and thus, only sees a lateral load. When you cut into the factory ball Joint, you find a sealed housing, sleeve, pin and boot. The upper cavity stores the grease from the factory and allows the “hat” of the pin to float up and down as the knuckle raises and lowers through the steering cycle. The “hat” of the pin does not make contact with the housing, it only prevents the pin from pulling out the bottom of the housing. As the hat of the pin doesn’t contact, there’s a coated sleeve that isolates the pin from the housing and it’s vertical surface is the only wear surface for the upper.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Carli Joints are similar in design in that we utilize the same style of a floating King-Pin upper but with several improvements in design. You’ll notice our ball joint has a pin and housing but the “hat” of the pin contacts the housing. This adds a second wear surface to further distribute the load applied laterally to the ball joint while providing the same failsafe as a factory ball joint ensuring the pin cannot be pulled through the bottom of the ball joint housing. Further, there is no sleeve isolating the wear surfaces eliminating the point of failure. The upper cavity’s size is increased to hold a larger grease reserve and the threaded cap both allows access to the cavity and pin if needed and allows servicing through its zerk fitting. You’ll also notice the channel in the pin itself providing a path for grease to migrate to the wear surface.
