Upgrading the OEM head bolts is a must when adding horsepower and torque to your diesel-powered Dodge Ram 2500 / 3500. The factory head bolts typically can't handle the additional pressure from high-performance applications which can lead to the cylinder head lifting.

Upgrading to these XDP head studs helps to keep cylinder head locked down and avoid head gasket failures. Constructed using an 8740 Chromoly Steel with an added proprietary element ensures these studs are more durable and will not stretch like the stock bolts.

The threads are rolled after heat-treating to deliver optimum fatigue strength. These studs are rated at 205,000+ psi yield strength and 225,000+ psi tensile strength to ensure a strong hold under higher combustion pressures.

In addition to the upgraded strength, replacing the head bolts with studs also allows you to obtain a more precise torque reading. A bolt gets twisted as it is tightened, so it's reacting to two different forces at the same time. With a head stud the force gets applied to the vertical axis, resulting in a more even clamping force.

Studs can also ensure proper alignment of the cylinder heads every time and provide for easier engine assembly. Unlike the OEM Torque-To-Yield (TTY) bolts which must be replaced after each use, these studs are reusable which makes them a must have for high-performance applications.

These studs are manufactured in an ISO/TS 16949 quality control facility. Kit includes 12-point nuts, washers, and installation instructions. Assembly lubricant sold separately.

Features:

  • Includes Washers and 12 Point Nuts
  • Yield Strength 205K psi - 215K psi
  • Tensile Strength 225K psi - 233K psi
  • Will Not Stretch Like The Factory Bolts
  • Thread Has Been Rolled After Heat Treatment
  • High-Strength 8740 Chromoly Steel Construction
  • 10mm Studs Test Out At A Max Load: Over 120KN
  • Manufactured In An ISO/TS 16949 Quality Control Factory
  • Studs Are Reusable, Unlike Torque-To-Yield (TTY) Bolts Which Much Be Replaced After Each Use

Tech Tips:
XDP Thread Cleaning Chasers (Sold Separately):
The XD40125TC is a great add-on that will be critical during installation. Thread Cleaning Chasers are an excellent tool to have on-hand to ensure you have properly cleaned the threads in your engine block before the installation of any fasteners. Clean threads provide accurate torque readings and will help give you peace of mind during your engine build or head gasket repair.

XDP X-TRA Slick Engine and Fastener Assembly Lubricant (Sold Separately):
The use of XD541 is highly recommended during engine assembly. Apply XDP X-TRA Slick Lubricant to head studs, head bolts, main studs, main bolts, connecting rod bolts, and any other fasteners used during engine assembly. Using a proper assembly lubricant during fastener installation reduces friction and torque pre-load scatter in the torquing sequence, while also helping to prevent thread galling and seizing.
