Upgrade the factory head bolts in your 2003-2007 Ford 6.0L Powerstroke with the XDP X220 Series Head Stud Kit XD3001HS. With only four head bolts per cylinder, and just 10 per bank, the 6.0 engine is infamous for cylinder head gasket issues.

When adding horsepower and torque to your Powerstroke, or even in stock applications as preventive maintenance, upgrading the factory head bolts is a necessity to avoid a lifted cylinder head, or a failed head gasket, due to factory bolt stretch.

Each stud is constructed utilizing 8740 Chrome Moly with an added proprietary element. The threads are then rolled after heat-treating to provide optimum fatigue strength. These heavy-duty head studs are rated at 220,000 plus psi tensile strength and 210,000 plus psi yield strength to ensure the cylinder heads on your engine stay locked in place under higher combustion pressures.

In addition to the upgraded strength, replacing the OEM head bolts with studs also allows you to obtain a more accurate torque reading. A conventional bolt gets twisted as it is tightened, so it's reacting to two different forces at the same time.

With a head stud the force gets applied to the vertical axis, resulting in a more even clamping force. Another benefit of studs is they can provide for easier engine assembly and proper alignment of the cylinder heads every time.

These studs are a must-have for high-performance applications and are reusable, unlike the OEM Torque-To-Yield (TTY) bolts which must be replaced after each use. These head studs are manufactured in an ISO/TS 16949 quality control facility. For a hassle-free installation, each set includes installation instructions.

Features:

  • Includes Washers and 12-Point Nuts
  • Yield Strength: 210,000-230,000 PSI
  • Tensile Strength: 220,000-236,000 PSI
  • Threads Rolled After Heat Treating
  • 10mm Studs Test Out At Max Load Of Over 120KN
  • 8740 Chrome Moly With Added Proprietary Element
  • Manufactured In ISO/TS 16949 Quality Control Facility
  • Reusable Unlike Torque-To-Yield (TTY) Bolts Which Are One Time Use

Inner Row Head Bolts (Sold Separately):
The XDP Inner Row Head Bolt Kit XD3020HB allows you to complete the job without having to reuse the factory bolts, or source a new set while your engine is torn down. Inner row head bolts secure the intake side of the cylinder head to the engine block and help to properly complete the factory bolt torque sequence.

XDP Thread Cleaning Chasers (Sold Separately):
Both the XD40126TC (for head studs), and 40128TC (for inner row bolts) are a great add-on that will be critical during installation. Thread Cleaning Chasers are an excellent tool to have on-hand to ensure you have properly cleaned the threads in your engine block before the installation of any fasteners. Clean threads provide accurate torque readings and will help give you peace of mind during your engine build or head gasket repair.
